Training listening abilities – visual letter monitoring task

The visual letter monitoring task was developed by colleagues at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research for use in their evaluation of cochlear implantation in the UK. Here at the NIHR Nottingham Hearing BRU this task has been used to assess improvements in working memory abilities following auditory training in adults with mild age-related hearing loss. Future training studies intend to assess whether similar improvements in this task can be shown for adult hearing aid users.

The visual letter monitoring task uses letters and simple words to assess working memory.

 

The letters appear ONE LETTER AT A TIME as consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel...

Your task is to identify each time 3 letters make up a known 3 letter (consonant-vowel-consonant [CVC]) word, for example P–E–N.
